Festa dell'Immacolata Concezione - Caltabellotta

Ogni 8 dicembre si celebra in tutte le comunità cattoliche la ricorrenza dell'Immacolata Concezione, che avvicina alle festività natalizie. A Caltabellotta, il simulacro è custodito nella chiesa dell'Itria, costruita secondo i canoni del Concilio di Trento. Dopo la processione del simulacro, nello spiazzo si brucia "Lu Diavulazzu" (Il Diavolaccio, nel dialetto locale), simbolo del peccato, che scompare dinanzi alla figura di Maria. In the houses, a special dessert is prepared: the struffoli, or "pignolata" in Sicilian. They are small dough pieces, deep fried in olive oil, abundant in the area, and covered in honey.
