КЫРГЫЗСТАН. КАК РОССИЯ ВЛИЯЕТ НА БИШКЕК ЧЕРЕЗ МИГРАЦИЮ, ЭКОНОМИКУ И ВОЙНУ?
Kyrgyzstan was long considered the freest country in Central Asia. But today, the situation is changing: pressure on independent media, criminal cases against journalists, prosecutions for social media posts, corruption scandals, China's growing influence, dependence on Russia, and the risk of sanctions are becoming part of the new political reality. In this episode, Kyrgyz investigative journalist Bolot Temirov, founder of the Temirov Live channel, explains why Kyrgyzstan, in his view, is moving toward the authoritarian model characteristic of several Central Asian countries. Bolot Temirov is an independent Kyrgyz investigative journalist and co-founder of @TemirovLIVE, known for his investigations into corruption in the highest echelons of Kyrgyzstan's government. In 2022, he was expelled from the country after his citizenship was revoked; Temirov himself and Reporters Without Borders believe this is politically motivated persecution for his independent journalism. We discuss Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, former head of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev, infighting within the Kyrgyz elite, EU sanctions, circumventing restrictions against Russia, Chinese expansion in Kyrgyzstan, the situation of migrant workers in Russia, and cases where Kyrgyz citizens are being drawn into the war against Ukraine. In this issue: — Why Kyrgyzstan has ceased to be an "island of freedom" in Central Asia; — How the authorities are pressuring independent journalists and investigative researchers; — Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, former head of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev, and infighting within the government; — Corruption, clans, and business surrounding the circumvention of sanctions against Russia; — Why Kyrgyzstan has found itself under sanctions pressure; — What is happening to Kyrgyz migrant workers in Russia; — Why Kyrgyz citizens may be forced to sign contracts with the Russian army; — Chinese expansion in Kyrgyzstan: land, projects, business, and migration. ✅ Subscribe to the Polish Radio channel in Russian and write in the comments: Can Kyrgyzstan preserve the remnants of political freedom, or will pressure on the media, sanctions, and dependence on Russia and China become the new norm?
