How to Open a Saltwater Pool

We just opened our pool this Memorial Day weekend. I go thru step by step exactly what we did. We have a saltwater in-ground pool with a safety cover, sand filter, chlorinator and natural gas heater. Steps: 00:00 Clean debris off cover 00:13 Install drain plugs and accessories stored during winter 02:05 Detach cover from anchors, remove cover 03:08 Tighten anchors to be flush with cement (not shown) Clean and fold up cover 03:50 Remove inlet plugs and install jet openings 04:38 Lubricate pump housing gasket with silicone grease 05:27 Prime pump with water, close lid 06:20 Start pump, check for leaks 07:17 Backwash filter to lower water level 07:30 Prepare shock and add to pool 09:02 Turn on chlorinator and heater Equipment needed: Broom or power washer to clean cover Cover spring removal tool Drill or allen wrench to tighten anchors Possibly channel locks for stubborn anchors / plugs Silicone grease for pump cover rubber gasket Hose / water source Shock and other chemicals as necessary Key Chemistry Measures: Chlorine (total and free) Salt pH Total alkalinity Calcium (water hardness) Cyanuric acid
