Round 18, 1996 - West Coast Eagles vs Essendon

After starting the 1996 season with a disappointing 1-4 record, the West Coast Eagles found a rich vein of form, rattling off 11 consecutive victories to roar up the AFL ladder. Though their win streak was snapped in Round 17, the Eagles had a chance to return to the winners circle when the Bombers came to town. West Coast and Essendon had formed a fierce rivalry over previous seasons, and the Subiaco Oval crowd was hoping to have the last laugh (and wave their jackets) on the final siren.
