This month, we unveiled the new Story Catalyst collective monthly group calls, and wow! There is so much to be optimistic about in the book publishing world, and our people have much to celebrate. We talked about: Week by week, how to balance your time as an author with time as a marketing/social media figure/platform-builder. Season by season, quarter by quarter, how to adjust your schedule you can either a) emphasize writing the book or b) emphasize preparing for your book to publish. Why “memoir plus” is getting high interest from literary agents now. What “researched memoir” is. Why literary agents love, love, love debut novels—and why this is your most likely time to be signed. Finding the “full circle” for your book, as you work through chapter by by chapter. Getting clarity on “why this book, why now” We talked about fine-tuning the creative process by: Live your book: If you're writing about the sacred pause, take sacred pauses as you're writing your book. If you're writing about soul echoes, listen for soul echoes as you write your book. If you're writing about living boundlessly, live with a wild, open heart. Perfect The Art of Retrieval: Use notebooks with color-coded pens, underlining key passages, and coded project tags (e.g., "HSL") to easily pull ideas into drafts. Write by hand, then get clearer. Writing by hand slows thought, prompting deeper clarification before ideas move to the computer. Capture ideas in the moment (driving, showering). batch-review at week's end. Borrow ideas from songwriters: Write the desired energy/environment (color, place, feeling) at the top of a writing session to anchor the piece's essence. I encouraged live participants that if they find they pitched their book well, they can always use the video clips for their own book promotion. Or, alternatively, if they pitched it well but it wasn’t the perfect crush-it-on-camera day, they can use the script to record their own perfect video.
