Ep. 19: ¿Repite CÉSAR AIRA una fórmula? Mi respuesta a David Pérez Vega

A couple of days ago I saw a video by David Pérez Vega about César Aira—a sharp and provocative commentary on “Prins”—and I was left wanting to continue the conversation. So this video is, in a way, a friendly response, an open dialogue, a bridge built from this rural channel to his, Bienvenido, Bob, which I follow with genuine enthusiasm. David has the virtues of a good reader: clarity, sensitivity, humor, and discernment. He also conveys something rare and valuable: a desire to converse. He seems like the kind of person you'd have a beer with and talk about books until late. His channel, in fact, was one of the reasons I was inspired to create literary content here. So, David: thank you. In this video, I address his central question: Does César Aira repeat a formula? And to do so, I revisit an essay I co-wrote a few years ago with Matthew Bush for a critical volume on Latin American neo-avant-garde narrative. Authors like Levrero, Lamborghini, Copi, Bellatin, Eltit, Bolaño, and Aira himself appear on this map of writings that seek to revive the avant-garde movements of the 20th century. I'm not an "Aira scholar," but I am a reader fascinated by the narrative machine that Aira sets in motion book after book: a mechanism that dismantles genres, explodes the logic of discourse, and transforms the very act of narrating into his true aesthetic project. In this video, I read some excerpts from the essay and present my hypothesis: Yes, Aira repeats a formula. No, that doesn't make him a formulaic writer. It makes him a radical neo-avant-garde artist. If you'd like to read the complete essay, leave me a comment and I'll share it with you. A warm rural hug, and see you in the next video! #CésarAira #DavidPérezVega #WelcomeBob #LatinAmericanLiterature #NeoavantGarde #MarioLevrero #RobertoBolaño #Aira #LiteraryEssay #BooktubeInSpanish #LiteraryReviews #BookChannels #CriticalReading #RuralWriter #ArgentineLiterature #IberoamericanaVervuert #AvantGardes #LiteraryYouTube #HispanicBooktubers #LiteraryAnalysis
