Yusuf Kaplan and "Road Map" continues to push the boundaries of thought with his unique style. In this episode, Kaplan discusses Turkish novels and their authors. He primarily stated the following: We see, through our own example, how literature, art, and therefore the spiritual world, play a key role in the construction of both a society's present and future, or how journeys, literary journeys, and artistic journeys that fail to nourish themselves from the roots of the soul actually result in the destruction of a society. Ömer Seyfettin is a very important figure in Turkish short stories, a very important figure in Turkish literature. Our friends asked, "How is he? Is he a good storyteller?" I said, "A good storyteller." In other words, I don't use him critically; on the contrary, I use him to do justice to his work. In fact, he drew the most perfect examples of the Turkish character, of human types in Türkiye, starting with the world of children—that is, of the selfless, loyal, and patriotic individuals produced by this society, by the Muslim society. He drew their characters and characteristics, and he portrayed them. But the interesting thing is that Ömer Seyfettin couldn't gain any foothold in the newly established world, in the newly established order. On the contrary, you must build a new world, a new nation, a new nation, a new culture, a new literature. Ömer Seyfettin must be one of its founding figures. Why was Ömer Seyfettin left out? Because Ömer Seyfettin was nourished by the roots of this land, nourished by the roots of its spirit, and therefore, the journey was a journey to eradicate the roots of this society's spirit. In some way, the novel was written, written with the knowledge and spirit of the Constitutional Monarchy period… There is a tradition nourished by its roots, flowing steadily. A tradition that will nourish us… From here, we're actually trying to discover undiscovered continents… Tanpınar and Yahya Kemal are actually very important characters, these are very important figures. Cemil Meriç is very ruthless. He's truly a man of great scope. He's a man who hasn't touched upon every field, and he's an incredible man who has produced first-class works… We need to reflect on the real crime committed here. On the one hand, there's actually a false nation-building effort based on a fake, invented literature. Has it been successful? It's partially successful, meaning it can't possibly succeed indefinitely. A tree without roots doesn't bear fruit. It's rootless, unstable because it's unsupported. It lacks support, meaning its foundations are not solid, and therefore, its collapse is inevitable. Therefore, literature didn't emerge from there, novelists, great novelists didn't emerge from there, and nothing followed. For example, one of the great novelists was Kemal Tahir. What happened to Kemal Tahir? He was cursed. Kemal Tahir gave voice to the children of this land, to the voices of his children. He became their voice, trying to understand and explain that spirit through the Ottomans. In other words, he magnificently redefined the Ottomans, and the man was ostracized, not ostracized, but excommunicated! For example, there's another novelist: Tarık Buğra. No one ever saw Tarık Buğra. Tarık Buğra wept, wept bitterly. He was a lonely man.
