Text: Joshua 14:6-15 6. Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to Joshua, “You know what the Lord said to Moses the man of God at Kadesh Barnea about you and me. 7. I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought him word with all my heart. 8. My brothers who went up with me dismayed the people, but I wholly followed the Lord my God. 9. Moses swore an oath that day, saying, ‘The land on which your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’ 10. And now, the Lord has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years, since the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while Israel wandered in the wilderness. I am eighty-five years old today. 11. Even so, I am still strong today. My strength is the same now as it was then, for war, both going out and coming in. 12. Now give me this mountain about which the LORD spoke in that day. You heard in that day that the Anakim were there and that the cities were large and fortified. But if the LORD will be with me, I will drive them out, just as the LORD said.” 13. Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave Hebron to him as an inheritance. 14. Hebron has remained the inheritance of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD, the God of Israel. 15. The name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath Arba, for Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.
