VANLIFE IN ST ANDREWS & ALONG FIFE'S EAST COAST TOWARD PERTH

Seven weeks into driving the entire coastline of mainland Scotland while living in my van, the journey brings me to St Andrews, a town known worldwide for golf but shaped by far deeper history. I begin with a visit to the Wild Scottish Sauna and a cold dip in the North Sea before exploring the town’s cobbled streets, the Old Course and the iconic Swilcan Bridge. I walk The Scores, the University, explore St Andrews Castle, the Cathedral and reflect on the story of Patrick Hamilton, whose execution in 1528 marked a turning point in Scotland’s religious history. Leaving St Andrews, I follow the coast toward the Tay, stopping overnight at Tayport and then onto Wormit Bay the following day to see the famous Tay Rail Bridge. The journey continues to the ruins of Balmerino Abbey and the ancient Round Tower at Abernethy before ending the day in Perth as the road moves further north.
