4 Motorcycle Laws Every SA Rider Needs To Know

Some of South Africa's motorcycle laws are stranger than you'd expect, including the only piece of gear that's legally required, whether learners can carry a passenger, what the law actually says about lane splitting, and the rules on how you're even allowed to sit and ride. I went through the actual National Road Traffic regulations to check. Every law in this video is a real regulation from the National Road Traffic Act, with the exact regulation numbers on screen as I go. CHAPTERS 0:00 The only motorcycle gear that's legal in South Africa 0:42 Learners can't carry a passenger 1:09 Lane splitting and filtering (it's not illegal in South Africa) 1:41 How you're allowed to sit (no standing, no wheelies) 2:01 Are these actually enforced? 📖 THE ACTUAL LAW (don't just take my word for it) National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996: https://www.gov.za/documents/national... National Road Traffic Regulations 2000 (full, browsable): https://source.acts.co.za/national-ro... The regs I mention: 207 (helmets), 99 (learner passengers), 298 (passing/filtering), 309 (how you ride, incl. wheelies). Know a motorcycle law from where you ride that sounds too weird to be real? Drop it in the comments, I'm genuinely curious how SA compares. This is general info on South African road law as I understand it at time of filming, not legal advice, and laws can change or be applied differently in practice. Check the current regulations or a professional if you need certainty. Anything I do on camera is what worked for me and my bike, not a recommendation. Work on your own machine at your own risk.
