The legend of the Church of Gorunești hides an unusual story of remorse and faith. After robbing a boyar, some outlaws learned that the stolen money was intended for the construction of a place of worship. Impressed, they returned the loot and contributed their own funds, ending up being painted in the votive painting alongside the founders. Beyond this historical gesture, the place retains an air of mystery maintained by the lack of electricity and a strange local tradition: the eyes of the saints painted on the outside were scratched and destroyed by witches who believed that this way they could hide their practices.
