The Grand Tikal Futura Hotel features a hotel on the third level, a movie theater, a shopping center, office space, parking, and other uses. It was designed by the firm Pemueller-Cohen. It was the tallest building in Guatemala City until the construction of the Torre Premier Club. It currently ranks sixth among the tallest buildings in Guatemala. It was built between 1996 and 1997. Its architectural design contains elements of Mayan culture, such as the use of jade, pyramid formations, and animal motifs. It houses the Planeta Maya entertainment center, which includes five movie theaters from the Cineflick chain, a theater, a bowling alley, and electronic games. The building suffered a fire on September 30 due to a short circuit that started in the shopping center area; no casualties were reported.
