The Fully-Renewed Farncombe West (Farncombe Street) Level Crossing, Surrey

This level crossing was the last public highway crossing on the line to be commissioned at the completion of the Farncombe to Petersfield (F2P) re-signalling on the Portsmouth Direct Line, boasting a fully-renewed set-up with 5 LED pedestrian signals and an Alstom Ebigate 630 system. Generally, barrier down time has decreased with the crossing not being lowered until stopping trains in the southbound direction are arriving into the station. Very sadly, however, Farncombe's signal box has been demolished to make way for the CCTV equipment used to operate the crossing from Basingstoke, which now controls the whole line between Shalford Junction and Petersfield. I feel very lucky to have been shown into the old signal box prior to its demolition.
