Tucked along Jalan Bukit Bintang, just minutes from Pavilion and the Federal Hotel, Toong Kwoon Chye Wanton Mee (東莞仔) is one of Kuala Lumpur’s oldest surviving noodle businesses — quietly serving wanton mee for over 100 years. In this POV video, I visit this unassuming corner shop to experience what old-school wanton mee tastes like today. No flashy heritage branding. No modern reinvention. Just handmade egg noodles, silky pork wantons, classic char siu, and a gentle soy-based sauce that reflects a much earlier era of KL street food. Founded in 1919 as a pushcart in Pudu and now run by the fourth generation of the Yap family, Toong Kwoon Chye isn’t about bold flavours or viral hype. It’s about continuity, memory, and comfort — the kind of food many of us grew up with, or remember from visiting our grandparents. I also try their curry chicken noodles, one of the stall’s popular add-ons, and share my honest thoughts on the noodles, sauce, and overall experience.
