EARLY JULY MUSHROOMS Part 2: Mushroom Hunting in Southern Indiana
Celebrate America's 250th birthday with an incredible midsummer mushroom foraging adventure through the hardwood forests of southern Indiana! In this special 100th episode of Mushroom Journeys, we continue our quest to document 250 mushrooms while exploring one of the most productive times of the year for fungal diversity. This July woodland walk features edible mushrooms, poisonous mushrooms, rare fungi, mushroom identification tips, historical stories, and a look at some of the most beautiful species found beneath oak, beech, maple, and hickory trees, as "Stumpy" the three-legged box turtle helps me find mushrooms. Where as last time we focused more on Bolete mushrooms, this episode is heavy with Milkcaps and Russulas. Whether you're an experienced mushroom hunter, amateur mycologist, naturalist, photographer, or simply enjoy exploring nature, this episode showcases the incredible biodiversity hidden within eastern North American forests during peak summer mushroom season.
