The band originally consisted of lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter John Fogerty, his brother, rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty, bassist Stu Cook, and drummer Doug Clifford. They played together from 1959, first as the Blue Velvets, then as the Golliwogs, before adopting the name Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1967. CCR's musical style encompasses roots rock, swamp rock, blues rock, Southern rock, country rock, and soul. Contrary to what their San Francisco Bay Area origins might suggest, the band often played in a Southern rock style, with lyrics about bayous, catfish, the Mississippi River, and other elements of Southern American iconography. The band's songs rarely addressed love, focusing instead on political and social issues, such as the Vietnam War. They performed at the 1969 Woodstock festival in upstate New York, becoming the first major signed act to play there. CCR's breakup was particularly acrimonious at the end of 1972, after four years of chart success. Tom Fogerty had officially left the band the previous year, and John was at odds with the remaining members over business matters and artistic control, leading to lawsuits among the former band members. Ongoing disagreements between Fogerty and Fantasy Records owner Saul Zaentz led to further protracted legal battles, and John Fogerty refused to perform with the two other surviving members at Creedence Clearwater's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Although the band never officially reunited, John Fogerty continues to perform CCR songs as part of his solo show, while Cook and Clifford have performed as Creedence Clearwater Revisited since the 1990s. CCR's music remains a staple on American classic rock radio; 28 million CCR records have been sold in the United States alone. The compilation album Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits, released in 1976, is still on the Billboard 200 albums chart and reached 500 weeks on the chart in December 2020. It has been certified 10 times platinum. 👉 Chapters: 0:00 Introduction 1:20 Formation of the band 3:41 Susie Q 4:49 Proud Mary 7:42 Green River 10:00 Bad Moon Rising 12:02 Fortunate Son 14:24 I Heard It Through The Grapevine 15:30 John Fogerty's Gear Moment 18:11 Have You Ever Seen The Rain? 21:17 Born on The Bayou - Conclusion 👉 Music credits: The Doppelgangaz - Quietude https://chillhop.com 👉 Join the Guitar Discord: / discord for your questions, comments, gear, tabs, etc.!
