A-17, and mil-spec, are reference that relate to a set of standards that used by the military during the Korean war era for the manufacture of watches to meet the military’s needs that could then be manufactured by any watch company. Watchmakers like Elgin, Waltham, Bulova, Hamilton and others produced A-17 watches adhering to the strict military specifications. The A-17 pilot's watch is a successor to the A-11 WWII watch, primarily used by the USAAF (United States Army Air Forces) pilots during the Korean War. The A17 included a 24-hour time track on the dial, as was required of a pilots watch and some key improvements such as improved luminous materials for low-light navigation. Update: The movement in the watch is the Swiss Ronda powertech 505, not 513, as I'd guessed in the video. It has the same battery life expectance and accuracy as was stated.
