Beginning on drums at eight and attending the Oakland School for the Arts before becoming a two-year member of the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars Orchestra. Now based in New York, Berliner is an active bandleader and composer, heading a series of superlative ensembles. The youngest artist and first woman to win the DownBeat Critics’ Poll for Rising Star Vibraphonist, she has collaborated with Beck, Vijay Iyer, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ravi Coltrane, Nicholas Payton, Christian McBride, Tyshawn Sorey, and Cécile McLorin Salvant.
