🐝 What's Going On In Hive 3?! Queen Cells, Honey Flow & Hive Check Up The Farm!

Welcome back to BB Outdoors UK! 🐝 Today we're back up at the farm checking all four active hives to see how they're progressing during this warm weather and strong honey flow. Hive 1 is currently empty and being kept as a spare hive. Hive 2 is looking great. We found the blue-marked queen, confirmed it's queen right, and saw brood in all stages. This colony came from a split and is growing fast, so we've added a super and will be adding five more brood frames to give them room to expand. Hive 3 has left me scratching my head a bit! We found the queen and confirmed the hive is queen right, but we also found queen cells. The queen doesn't appear to have been out and mated yet, so I'm still trying to work out exactly what's going on. Beekeeping is a constant learning experience and this hive is definitely keeping me on my toes. We'll be adding more frames this week and monitoring it closely. Hive 4 is queen right with brood in all stages and plenty of activity throughout the colony. Hive 5 is also looking healthy. We found the queen, saw brood in all stages, plenty of pollen coming in and lots of room for the colony to continue growing. With temperatures rising and nectar coming in well, all the colonies are working hard. Now it's a case of keeping a close eye on them, making sure they have enough space and staying ahead of any swarming behaviour.
