The Baker Viaduct Deck Is Taking Shape (Trans Pennine Route Upgrade)
The Baker Viaduct continues to take shape as engineers install more of the permanent bridge deck across the structure, marking another significant milestone for the TransPennine Route Upgrade (TRU). In this update, we visit Ravensthorpe and Westtown to examine the latest progress on one of the most ambitious civil engineering projects currently under construction in West Yorkshire. With the main lifting crane now removed from the East Abutment, attention has shifted to constructing the bridge deck that will eventually carry the future fast lines across the River Calder and surrounding railway infrastructure. This video includes: • Baker Viaduct construction progress • Span 9 development • Precast concrete deck slab installation • East Abutment embankment construction • Temporary girder support structures • Yorkshire Water utility diversions • Calder Road bridge replacement works • Grade Separation progress at Ravensthorpe • Future fast-line flyover infrastructure • Dewsbury & Batley blockade update Engineers are now installing precast concrete deck slabs across the steel girders, creating permanent working platforms that will eventually form part of the finished viaduct deck. Once reinforcement and concrete are added between the girders, the structure becomes a single continuous bridge deck capable of carrying the future railway. Elsewhere, utility diversion works continue around Calder Road while progress is also being made on the Grade Separation structure, which will allow future fast services to pass over the slower lines through Ravensthorpe. As more of the viaduct deck appears, the scale of the project becomes increasingly apparent, bringing the future TransPennine Route Upgrade another step closer to reality. #TRU #TransPennineRouteUpgrade #BakerViaduct #Ravensthorpe #Dewsbury #RailwayEngineering #NetworkRail #CivilEngineering Chapters 00:00 Baker Viaduct Overview 01:02 Building The East Abutment Embankment 01:34 How The Viaduct Deck Is Constructed 05:20 Close-Up Look At Span 9 06:42 Calder Road & Grade Separation Progress Keywords Baker Viaduct, Ravensthorpe, Westtown, TransPennine Route Upgrade, TRU, Span 9, viaduct construction, railway engineering, Network Rail, civil engineering, Calder Road bridge, Grade Separation, Dewsbury blockade, Yorkshire Water diversions, fast lines, railway infrastructure, River Calder crossing, West Yorkshire rail upgrades, BAM Nuttall, railway construction UK.
