Twenty years ago, a peaceful vacation for the Fernández Salguero family—a wealthy couple and their young daughter, Clodine—became the beginning of a story of love, hate, and lies. Upon hearing the news, Amanda decides to bring the young woman named Asaí to live with her, as her story reminds her of the tragic accident in which she lost her son and daughter-in-law. From then on, the Benítezes will be anxious to ensure that their secret is not revealed and that the girls' true identities are finally revealed. But Asaí and Clodine will not only be united by a shared past, nor will they clash solely for Amanda's love, but also for that of Lucas Linares, a handsome young professor. Clodine will soon fall in love with Lucas and, stubbornly, will try to win his love by any means necessary. However, he will notice Asaí and embark on the task of teaching her how to behave like "a lady." The connection between the two becomes evident, and little by little, separating them becomes Clodine's sole objective. Soon, Clodine realizes that her true love is Cristóbal Linares, and that, although she doesn't want to admit it, it is reciprocated. This encounter irritates Asaí, who soon reveals his innocent jealousy. Luján marries Lucas, but later, upon discovering that her husband doesn't really love her, she begins to go crazy and attempts to commit countless evil deeds against Asaí.
