What’s It Like to Join a VHF Contest on a Mountain?
Another adventure in the mountains with amateur radio! ⛰️ Together with the OK1KVK/OL7C team, we set up antennas high above the Czech–German border and joined the A1 Marconi Memorial VHF Contest. From this mountain — Blatenský vrch — we spent the weekend calling across Europe, connecting with other ham radio operators through the noise and wind. This short documentary shows what a contest looks like from the inside — the people, the sounds, and the quiet beauty of a mountain station. You’ll hear a lot of Czech language in this film. I didn’t want to replace those voices with dubbing — they carry the real atmosphere of this place. Just turn on the subtitles — and listen. Timestamps: 00:00 — Setting up antennas 06:36 — Contest operation 08:59 — About OL7C 10:22 — End of the contest I dream of creating beautiful documentary films about radio. Let me know in the comments how well I managed to do it this time.
