Context: A girl suffering from leukemia required medical treatment involving a blood transfusion. Her parents, Jehovah's Witnesses, objected because it would affect their religious beliefs. Ruling: "After conducting a very important analysis of the arguments and considerations, the Court decided that the minor's right to health should prevail, that this treatment should be carried out regardless of her parents' religious freedom. According to medical opinion, this treatment was the most efficient and effective way to solve her problem. The parents cannot be stigmatized as if they were bad parents, which they were not; they were simply loving parents who had a conflict arising from their religious beliefs. Therefore, the Court decided that, while the minor's right to health prevailed, the parents should and had the right to remain involved in the treatment until the minor's health was restored. In this way, the court is making a difference in people's lives. The life of a minor was saved through a balanced analysis, in which we prioritized this girl's right to health."
