The Incredibly Fragrant Canary Island Broom!

In this video, Logee's horticulturist and third generation owner, Byron Martin, talks about the incredibly fragrant Canary Island Broom (Genista canariensis). Also known as the Canary broom, Canary Islands broom or florist's genista, this easy-to-grow flowering plant is native to the Canary Islands, but grows as an introduced species in mainland Europe (especially Spain) and on other continents. The winter days are awakened by the sweet fragrance of this subtropical broom. Long spires of bright yellow flowers emerge from January to April and fill the air with a delicate fragrance. Grow in a cool, sunny area with a night temperature below 60° F to induce flowering. It will continue to flower as long as the nights are cool.
