The Diamond’s Group: Linking Past and Present at St Colman’s College
The Diamond’s Group: Linking Past and Present at St Colman’s College The Diamond’s Group represents the enduring spirit, friendship and loyalty of St Colman’s College, Violet Hill. Made up of past pupils, many of whom attended the College during the 1950s and 1960s, the group is a living reminder of the deep bonds formed during school life and the strong sense of belonging that remains long after pupils have left the College. The members of the Diamond’s Group meet every six weeks in Diamonds Restaurant, Warrenpoint, where they gather to socialise, reminisce and celebrate the friendships and shared memories built during their time at Violet Hill. Their continued connection with the College reflects the pride, tradition and community that have always been central to St Colman’s. More than simply a group of former pupils, the Diamond’s Group stands for loyalty, wisdom, service and enduring friendship. These men offer a valuable link between the College’s proud past and its present-day pupils. Their stories help preserve the history of St Colman’s College, while their continued interest in school life demonstrates the lasting impact that Violet Hill has had on generations of pupils. Recently, a small group of J1 pupils were given the special opportunity to attend a lunchtime meeting with the Diamond’s Group at Diamonds Restaurant in Warrenpoint. The meeting brought together two generations of Violet Hill pupils: those who experienced College life in the 1950s and 1960s, and those who are beginning their own journey at St Colman’s in the 21st century. During the lunch, current pupils had the opportunity to hear first-hand what school life was like in previous generations. They listened to stories, memories and reflections from former pupils, gaining a deeper understanding of how the College has changed over time, but also how many of its core values have remained the same. In return, the J1 pupils were able to share their own experiences of modern school life, giving the Diamond’s Group an insight into what it means to be a pupil at St Colman’s today. This unique event was a valuable experience for all involved. For the pupils, it provided an opportunity to develop confidence, communication skills and respect for the history of the College. For the members of the Diamond’s Group, it was a chance to reconnect with the school through the voices and experiences of its youngest pupils. The meeting captured something very special about St Colman’s College: the idea that once a pupil belongs to Violet Hill, that connection remains for life. The Diamond’s Group continues to embody the values of friendship, tradition, loyalty and community, while their engagement with current pupils ensures that the story of St Colman’s is passed from one generation to the next. And we celebrated a very special 'big' birthday for Sean McManus! St Colman’s College is deeply grateful to the Diamond’s Group for their continued support, wisdom and friendship, and for the generous welcome they extended to our J1 pupils. Their presence remains a powerful reminder that the spirit of Violet Hill lives on through its past pupils, present pupils and future generations.
