The Ayeyarwady River is the largest river in Myanmar, flowing from north to south. It has served as a lifeblood for locals for thousands of years. Many towns are located along its banks. The fortunate life of people living along the banks of the Ayeyarwady is due to the fertile soil and pristine forests, enabling them to pursue their daily lives without any problems. For example, in Kata, an ancient city in the north, located on the western bank of the Ayeyarwady River, Kata is a major and renowned source of teak wood in Myanmar. It is said that in the past, people could not see the sunlight because the forest here was covered with large teak trees. Around Kata, products made from natural materials are produced. If you go to Kata market, you will see vendors using a type of leaf called "Ing Ton" instead of banana leaves to wrap things and food. They also use bamboo baskets called "Tan". In Malinjao village, the entire village is known for weaving baskets. In Shwebo, there is a village famous for making pottery, both for their own use and for sale, both domestically and internationally, due to the special soil here. Commonly found along the banks of the Irrawaddy River are yellow and red clays, which, when mixed together, produce beautiful colors for pottery. Any villager can dig up the clay here. Furthermore, the traditional methods of pottery production here are still used. Everyone uses only the strength of their wrists, arms, legs, and feet to shape the clay, without any technology. This is a rare sight today. "Kowin Sotun," the head of a factory there, shared that Irrawaddy clay has been a great help to the villagers, providing them with jobs and income. Although it's becoming increasingly difficult to find potters, he's confident that those interested in making pottery will be able to earn enough to support their families without difficulty.
