Fetal face and brain: high definition scan at 11-13 weeks
This video clip demonstrates application of high-frequency transabdominal linear transducer for examination of the fetal face and brain at 11-13 weeks' gestation. Advantages: 1. High definition of the image (superior to conventional convex transducers). 2. Possibility to use 'flip the image' technique for examination of the face in awkward fetal positions (back up). 3. High resolution image of intracranial translucency (IT), which is free from reverberation artifact and acoustic shadowing. 4. Improved visualization of nuchal translucency and nasal bone. Shortcomings: 1. Reduced penetration 2. Narrow scanning field We believe that future technological improvements of high-frequency linear transducers will improve our ability to perform early pregnancy anomaly scan at 11-13 weeks transabdominally.
