Hello everyone, today I'm turning a hood (which I never wear anyway) into a collar. I'm simply cutting off a large portion of it, leaving a strip. Read more on my blog: http://irenezweihaende.blogspot.com/2... First, remove the drawstring from the hood. Now it's time to remove the eyelets. Some can be removed with pliers. If that doesn't work, cut the eyelet out with small scissors. My new collar should be as high as the end of the zipper. When cutting off the hood, I need to allow for a seam allowance of about 2.5 centimeters. So, I simply mark the desired depth on a ruler. Hold the ruler with the mark against the hood trim and make evenly spaced marks at the end of the ruler. Connect the marks to form a straight line. Before cutting, pin the lining and hood together to prevent the layers from shifting. If you have an overlock machine, this is where you'll have an advantage. Alternatively, cut the hood along the marked line. Then, finish the raw edge with a zigzag or overlock stitch. An overlock machine does all of this in one pass. Next, fold the seam allowance into the collar by about 1 cm. Make sure it's large enough so that the eyelet holes are completely hidden within the collar. Pin the top edge together again. Baste the collar to the zipper ends by hand. When sewing with jersey fabric, use a jersey needle in your sewing machine. Select a long straight stitch and topstitch the collar from the wrong side.
