When F1 Was Shamed into Change: Roger Williamson and the 1973 Dutch Grand Prix

The early 1970s were among the most dangerous years in Formula One history. The cars were getting too fast for the tracks and they were time bombs. And any progress that was happening was... Slow. But in 1973, Roger Williamson, in only his second grand prix event, was killed when he suffered a blowout or suspension failure at Zandvoort, and he died in his overturned burning car while David Purley tried in vain to save him. And while Purley put his life in danger to save another, those who were supposed to help, didn't. Becuase they weren't equipped to.
