June 2025: A Relaxing Trip to Foshan from Shenzhen by High-Speed Rail Taking advantage of the beautiful weather, I decided to take the high-speed rail from Shenzhen to Foshan for a leisurely day trip. The journey was quite convenient—just 40 minutes from Shenzhen North Station to Guangzhou South Station, followed by a 35-minute ride on Foshan Metro Line 2 to the city center. My last visit to Foshan was back in 2020 during the pandemic when international travel was restricted, and even Hong Kong was off-limits. On those weekends, I often found myself exploring nearby cities around Shenzhen. Before my first visit, my only association with Foshan was *Wong Fei-hung's Shadowless Kick**—probably a common impression among many Taiwanese, I imagine. But that 2020 trip completely changed my perspective. Foshan turned out to be a historic city in Guangdong where people live at a relaxed pace, the food is delicious and affordable, and the seamless blend of old and new districts gives off a vibe of being **"far from the emperor's reach yet unfazed by change, with a hint of chivalry."* This second trip allowed me to explore even deeper—**34,000 steps** worth of walking!—taking in more sights and soaking up the local atmosphere. My Foshan stroll began at the *Ancestral Temple**, home to Lingying Temple, the Ip Man Museum, and the Wong Fei-hung Memorial Hall. Next, I wandered through the bustling **Lingnan Tiandi* for lunch. Afterward, I strolled down **Sheren Front Street**, a charming, non-commercialized old neighborhood. Slowly making my way to **Kuaizi Road**, I discovered numerous calligraphy stalls lining the street, giving the area a scholarly charm. Eventually, I arrived at *Liang Garden**, one of the **Four Great Lingnan Gardens**, where couples were taking wedding photos amidst its stunning scenery. There, I treated myself to an **iced mung bean soup* and *iced almond tea**—both for just **5 yuan!* After a short break, I headed south to **Chuihong Road**, lined with hipster cafes where young people lounged on sidewalk chairs, chatting over coffee. With its lush greenery and laid-back vibe, it reminded me of Taipei's Minsheng Community or Chengdu's Yulin District. Finally, I let myself wander aimlessly and stumbled upon **Jihua Park**, a spacious and pleasant green space similar to Taipei's Daan Forest Park (though slightly smaller—210,000 sqm vs. 260,000 sqm). The park featured vast grassy areas where people walked their dogs, and a group of foreigners played ultimate frisbee. With a nearby metro station and what looked like nice residential complexes, it seemed like a great neighborhood to live in.
