Deep spearfishing in CWT (Constant Weight). Most of the fish were caught at depths between 30-40m. Highly prized Mediterranean Big Game including Dusky Grouper, Mottled Grouper, White Grouper, Dentex, Greater Amberjack and Brown Meagre. In Maltese waters these fish are usually very difficult to get close to, therefore I armed myself for long range shots with a custom made 120cm speargun with a 7.5mm shaft and 2x16mm small ID rubbers at highest stretch. Dive safe 2. Spearfish sustainably Freediving is the mother of spearfishing. Without possessing the basic freediving knowledge and skills any underwater activity on a single breath of air can easily lead to tragic consequences. Therefore it's highly recommended to complete a dedicated freediving course with a qualified instructor. Once you learn the essentials and master the basic feediving skills you will be able to enjoy this amazing sport in a safe and enjoyable way by simply respecting your own body and the rules and safety protocols of freediving. As for spearfishing itself - if you are just starting out then you really want to get some proper mentoring from an experienced spearfisher in order to kick-start and minimize the risks involved. Also, you want to be 18 years of age or older in order to handle a speargun.
