Schubert: 4 Impromptus Opus 90 / D899 - Historical Tempo Reconstruction- Performer: Alberto Sanna
The Schubert's 4 Impromptus D899 (opus 90) are among the most lyrical and poetic works ever written, as they fully represent the approach of the composer himself to the piano. This is a music based on intimate feelings and deep thoughts, virtuosity is never displayed as mere finger technique or speed. The atmosphere created here resembles the one of the lieder (Schubert composed over 600 of them) and of chamber music. We reconstructed this performance starting from the MM that we found in the edition published by August Sturm. As always, if we read those MM in half beat, where every tick gives the value of the note, these pieces would be extremely fast, if not unplayable. But if we take the WBMP (Whole Beat Metronome Practice), where each single tick represents a PART of the INTENDED TIME (the note value next to the number), and where the number indicates the subdivision of the note value, maybe this music would become playable and revelatory of the performance practice of the 19th century. Enjoy the result! 1:24 - Impromptu Opus 90 /1 Allegro molto moderato (August Sturm MM: q=92) 20:24 - Impromptu Opus 90 /2 Allegro (q=184) 30:35 - Impromptu Opus 90 /3 Andante (h=63) - Full Pedal / Moderator 46:05 - Impromptu Opus 90 /4 Allegretto (q=132) -- 🙋Support the movement we're building and become an insider ▶  / authenticsound  Not sure why you would?
