"There isn't much fish, they bring back very little, mostly for food. We're experiencing a low catch," said a fish vendor, adding that due to the scarcity, they have to raise prices. She added that the species they have caught the most are bonito and sierra (Spanish mackerel). Despite the scarcity of fish, the fishermen continue out to sea hoping to find more, while others have simply stopped going out to fish: "The situation is critical, there's no fishing, no business. We hope the government can help," said another fisherman, also indicating that the tide has risen, making it even more difficult for them to go out to sea. “We’re catching very little; it doesn’t even cover the cost of gasoline,” commented one fisherman, adding that fishermen are searching various areas of the sea to try to find food. Seabirds are also experiencing this scarcity and are approaching the pier looking for food.
