The Lada Iskra undergoes its first major test: the car has entered the Russian market in three body styles—sedan, wagon, and crossover wagon—and is available with two engine options and three transmissions. The starting price for the new Lada Iskra sedan is 1,249,000 rubles for the version with an 8-valve, 1.6-liter VAZ engine producing 90 hp, paired with a 5-speed manual. The top-of-the-line sedan is priced at 1,669,000 rubles (as tested) and comes with a 1.6-liter, 16-valve engine producing 106 hp, paired with a continuously variable transmission—the same as the Lada Vesta. The Iskra is also available with a 1.6-liter engine producing 106 hp, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Based on a significantly redesigned Renault platform, today's test was interesting to see how far the Iskra has come from its French competitor, the Logan, and how the Lada performs in motion.
