It's. Still. Snowing. Alaska, Building, Fishing and Living Off Grid During Breakup.

Spring in Alaska isn't like spring anywhere else. It's cold, it's muddy, and apparently it still snows in May. We push through a week of rough weather to make some real progress on the cabin — moving a big load of beetle kill logs out of the driveway, building a new deck with K's dad, fixing a warped wall stud that's been throwing our bathroom door off the rail, and prepping the Arctic entry ramp. Then we take a day off and head to the coast for a charter fishing trip that turns into one of the best days we've had since moving up here. Rockfish, cod, rough seas, and a fish fry back at the cabin that made me deeply regret a decision I made on the boat.
