MADLANGA COMMISSION ARREST: SAPS FORENSIC CAPTAIN FIGHTS FOR BAIL

The bail application of a SAPS forensic captain arrested following testimony linked to the Madlanga Commission continued in court, with explosive exchanges between the defence and the investigating officer. During proceedings, the defence argued that the State's case is based on possibilities and speculation, while the investigating officer maintained that multiple reports point to alleged offences and that further investigations are ongoing. The court also heard evidence regarding a missing ballistic case file, concerns about potential witness influence, and allegations that were strongly denied by the investigating officer. The investigating officer confirmed that no evidence currently exists showing the accused directly contacted witnesses to intimidate them, while also revealing that some witnesses expressed fears after being labelled as informants within the workplace. The matter was postponed to 9 June 2026 for the continuation of the bail application.
