First, there's the cost of purchasing chicks (DOC). DOC stands for day-old chicken, or chickens that are less than a day old. This means the chicks we buy have just hatched from the hatchery. To obtain these chicks, we can buy them directly from a hatchery or through a poultry broker. For small-scale purchases, we usually only have the option of buying from a broker. The price of broiler chicks fluctuates, ranging from 3,000 to 6,000 rupiah per chick. To simplify the calculation, let's take the middle value, which is 4,500 rupiah. Therefore, the cost of purchasing the seeds is 4,500 rupiah, multiplied by 300 chickens, which equals 1,350,000 rupiah. Second is the cost of purchasing feed. To raise broiler chickens, we should use ready-made or manufactured feed. Pre-manufactured feed is preferred because its nutritional requirements are already calculated according to the chickens' needs. Broiler chickens require different nutrients at each age stage. Broiler chickens are divided into three stages: the first week is called the starter period; weeks two to three are called the grower period; and the fourth week is called the finisher period. During the starter period, broiler chickens require a higher protein intake than calories, unlike the grower period, where protein requirements are balanced with calorie requirements. During the finisher period, calorie requirements are greater than protein requirements. The feed requirement for broiler chickens is 6 sacks of feed for 100 broiler chickens.
