Rainy Hike To Butig Falls - Olongapo City's Hidden Gem

We hiked through large boulders on our way to Butig Falls, situated in the far north of Sitio Banca Bancaan of Gordon Heights, Olongapo City. It took us 6 hours to reach the fourth tier of the waterfalls due to the trail we took. It was raining heavily, but we were prepared for it. We stayed the cold and breezy night, it was nice and peaceful. Starting a fire for cooking was hard! but we eventually succeeded. Butig, we suggest you prepare the following things: Machete: For cutting through thick bushes First aid kit: You'll have plenty of scratches due to the overgrowth Clothing: Wear long sleeve tops and lightweight pants to avoid scratches Bug Spray: There's plenty of insects and mosquitoes that are quite deadly! Raincoat: Rain can sometimes come unexpectedly in the mountains Water: A good rule of thumb is half a liter of water per half an hour of hiking Tip: Freshwater from the stream is safe to drink once filtered with a 100% cotton bandana then boiled for 25 minutes to pasteurize and kill deadly pathogens. Food: Calorie dense trail food is recommended Shelter: A lightweight tarpaulin is good for hot or rainy weather Health: Be sure to train or exercise beforehand as the trail is quite difficult to reach especially in the rainy season as the terrain is very slippery. Our bodies were very sore after we went home because we weren't much active this Covid-19 pandemic lockdown. Go to the Barangay Gordon Heights Office to ask for permission to hike, you can also secure a guide from there too. We took a much better trail on the way home, it took us only 2 hours to get to our next campsite. We suggest you take that trail, unfortunately, we didn't record where the easier trail. Thank you for watching!
