SHINGAI - Mhondoro (Official Audio + Lyrics)

“Mhondoro” is rooted in ceremony and tradition. The title refers to the Mhondoro spirit - ancestral lion guardians (the word itself referring to a lion spirit) believed to watch over the land, the rivers, and the people who belong to them. The track draws inspiration from the Zimbabwean folk song “Dzinomwa Muna Save,” which loosely translates to: “Our ancestors - the lions - drink from the Save River. And so we are the children of that river.” That idea runs quietly through this track. It speaks to the relationship with rivers like the Save, Zambezi, and Limpopo, and deeper connections between people, land and water - memory, identity, and responsibility. So, the voice of this track comes from a place of guardianship and authority rather than performance. "Mhondoro" is a warning to any more attempts to pollute our sacred waters - nationally and internationally. The track is part of the international FLOW project from EarthSonic, telling the diverse stories of women and water worldwide , using water sounds recorded from our ever changing planet , translating the stories of water into sound. Mhondoro is the first single from Flow's upcoming album - released later this year.
