Hiking New Zealand’s Hidden Gem | Hokitika

Explore the charming town of Hokitika on New Zealand's West Coast. Known for its rich Māori history, artistic vibe, and stunning natural beauty, Hokitika offers so much to discover. We visited the iconic Hokitika Gorge, known for its mesmerizing turquoise waters, and took a scenic hike to Lake Kaniere, nestled amidst a dense forest. Along the way, we were accompanied by the delightful Pīwakawaka (New Zealand Fantail) and shared the fascinating Māori legend of Māui and this playful bird. We also delved into Hokitika's past as a vital trading hub for pounamu (greenstone). The town's creativity shone through its beachfront art displays, and we ended our days watching breathtaking sunsets over the Hokitika Beach. Don’t miss the heartwarming moments at Hoki Boatshed Cafe, where the owners made our visit unforgettable, or our magical encounter with glow worms, which felt like stargazing beneath the forest canopy. From incredible seafood snacks to reflections on raising our son closer to nature, this trip was an unforgettable chapter in our New Zealand journey. ✨ Stay tuned till the end for a glimpse of our next adventure in Christchurch! 👉 Like, subscribe, and share to follow our journey!    / @imaininijay   References: Story on the Piwakawaka and Māui - https://www.tematapark.co.nz/natural-...
