Fly Tying - The Flash Hopper Terrestrial Pattern with Matt O'Neal

A super easy grasshopper pattern that can be tied in several colors. The small bit of flash in the deerhair wing gives it a little more attention to the big trout looking for an easy meal. A killer pattern in the summer to fall when terrestrials are still out. Hook: #6-10, hopper or 1x long dry fly hook Thread: Color to match foam Underbody: Ice dub in color to match foam Body: 2 mm foam in grasshopper colors Wing: Deer hair with a few strands of flash Savage Flies is a new project (named after one of my homewaters, the Savage River in Western Maryland, US). I hope to post 2-3 videos a week while continuing my own learning of the craft of fly tying. I've been trout fishing for many years but have only been tying for the last couple and am learning more every week. If you have any pointers on techniques that would help, I would love to hear them in the comments. Thanks for checking out the video. I hope you'll consider subscribing.
