RETIRING HEAD STAFF - NATIVE AMERICAN TRAINING INSTITUTE CONFERENCE 2026 POW WOW The History Native American Training Institute: Incorporated in 2010, the Native American Training Institute, Inc. (NATI) provides and elevates behavioral health professionals, addiction counselors, social workers and other mental health representatives through quality education, training, and professional development programs. NATI’s annual school continues promote wellness, healing, prevention, intervention, treatment, recovery through traditional Native American values. Founded in 1974 as the American Indian Training Institute, AITI was established to promote sobriety and prosperity within Native American communities, thus expanded into a training and education program for skilled therapists. Upon retirement of AITI’s founder, David Vallo, the organization evolved into the Native American Training Institute. Native American Training Institute (NATI) creates opportunities for individuals to be motivated in achieving their fullest potential through education and skills to address substance use disorder, trauma informed care, and the social determinants of health. These skills will shape the future by preserving our heritage through discovery, with a focus on resiliency to strengthen and reconnect families by building capacity, infrastructure and resources. Purpose Native American Training Institute (NATI) provides a professional learning environment and network that enhances the individual’s cultural identity and values of their respective communities for optimal healing and growth. NATI increases equitable pathways to on-going continuing education for cultural care providers, and multi-disciplinary professionals (including, but not limited to: Peer Support, Behavioral Health Services, Substance Use Disorder, Social Services, Public Safety, and Law Enforcement) integrating a strong cultural treatment modality for youth, individuals, families, and veterans.
