Our Patient Stories: John's story
It’s hard to capture the impact organ and tissue donations can have on a person’s life. But for John aged 76, who received a single left lung transplant in 2021 at Fiona Stanley Hospital, he’s clear on what it means to him. He sees it as the ultimate gift – the gift of life, allowing him to spend precious time with his family, including his eight grandchildren! “It’s just stunning to wake up every morning and think, I feel really healthy. I’m healthier than I was 15 to 20 years ago, and I can do things I would struggle to do ten years ago, and I’m just so incredibly grateful,” John said. Reflecting on his journey from then to now, John thanks the many, many staff involved in his care, and the difference the donation made to his life.
