1930 lost BRUTAL submissions of Kodokan judo

This video presents a selection of classical Kodokan submission techniques recorded in the early 20th century and preserved in Shinzui Judo ("The Essence of Judo"), one of the important historical references documenting pre-war Japanese judo. These techniques reflect the broader technical curriculum taught at the Kodokan during the 1920s and 1930s, a period when judo still retained many methods inherited from traditional jujutsu. The material includes historical forms of: Kansetsu-waza (joint-locking techniques) Shime-waza (strangulation and choking techniques) Transitional groundwork (newaza) Variations rarely seen in modern competition judo Many of these techniques were demonstrated by senior Kodokan instructors of the era and provide valuable insight into how judo was practiced before the standardization of modern sport rules. This footage is presented for historical and educational purposes, illustrating the technical depth and evolution of Kodokan judo.
