Mahindra Jeep CL 550 MDI is classic series from Mahindra & Mahindra. There are a lot of Jeep clones from Mahindra. In 1949 Mahindra assembled the Jeep CJ3 in India under the license of Willys Overland. The Jeep was built up on a concept by the US Military infantry at the time of World War II which lasted from 1941-1945. The military's proposed a SUV vehicle which would move around most of the terrains, and it should be light weighted, able to carry 3 people along with the armory. The quotation was given to American Austin Car Company- American Bantam to produce the proposed military vehicle. Hence, The Bantam company designed the prototype of the Jeep and submitted to the US Military, the company was then given an order for 75 vehicles in a day, but the Bantam was bankrupted that time and could not accomplish the needs. The US military then called up - Willys Overland and Ford to manufacture the design by Bantam. Both the companies made some modifications of the design by Bantam and produced the proposed vehicle. The Willys overland named the vehicle as Willys MB (Military Jeep) and the Ford named it as Ford GPW. Totally around 6,47,925 of Jeep were produced in the world. (Willys MB 359,489 units & Ford GPW 277,896 units).
