We left Ollantaytambo, knowing a high-altitude, very scenic route awaited us. After passing through the clouds, we would encounter a completely different landscape: more humid, rainier, more tropical, and with lots of jungle. We were almost at Machu Picchu. We were told we couldn't pass through Santa María without detouring to Santa Teresa and visiting the Cocalmayo hot springs.
