Do you think it is likely that climate change will be controlled? Do you think that people are likely to switch to electric cars soon? Examples: Trump is likely to win the Electoral College vote, while Harris is very likely to win the popular vote. 1 in 12 women is likely to develop breast cancer. Please remind me because I’m likely to forget. First-born children are likely to be successful and independent. We often use ‘likely’ to compare things: Teenagers are more likely to sleep late than older adults. Adults are less likely than children to oversleep. You can use this structure, too: It is likely that something will happen. Unlikely = the opposite The other candidates are unlikely to win the nomination.
