Hand Painting a 1958 Chevrolet Panel Truck | Traditional Signwriting on a Classic Car #signpainting

A customer drove all the way from the Nijmegen area to my workshop in Drachten with a beautifully restored 1958 Chevrolet Panel Truck. The project started with an AI-generated image. His question was simple: “Can you put this on the truck for real?” Absolutely. Using the AI image as a starting point, I recreated the logo and lettering by hand, refining the layout, proportions, and colors to fit the truck perfectly. Together we determined the final size and placement, making sure everything looked authentic to the era. During the design process, I suggested adding a subtle drop shadow. Not only does it improve visibility and depth, but it also helps capture the look and feel of commercial vehicle lettering from the late 1950s. Once the design was approved, it was time for the part I enjoy most: brush, paint, and steel. In a world dominated by vinyl graphics and digital printing, traditional sign painting remains a true craft. Every stroke is applied by hand, creating character that simply cannot be replicated by a machine. The result is a Chevrolet Panel Truck that not only turns heads but also honors the craftsmanship that went into its restoration.
