The story of the Passat doesn't begin in Brazil, and certainly not with Volkswagen as you might think, but rather in Germany with Audi. To better understand the course of this story, we first need to go back in time to see where it all began. The solution for Volkswagen only came at the end of the 1960s, more precisely in 1969, with the purchase of the also German NSU, which at the time of the purchase was already developing the K70 prototype, a vehicle with a traditional four-cylinder in-line, water-cooled engine. However, this type of vehicle did not achieve the success expected by the brand, so the solution was to turn to Audi, another automotive brand acquired by Volkswagen in 1964, and which had already been selling the Audi 80 since 1972. This model served as the basis for the automotive designer to design the new vehicle for the German brand. The curious thing is that he only needed to modify the rear part of the Audi 80's body, thus creating the new fastback for the German brand. And in 1973, the new Volkswagen Passat was presented to the public, a model that became one of Volkswagen's most important vehicles in the world.
