Larry, The Downing Street Cat - No. 10 of the North

After what can only be described as an unnecessarily energetic week, Downing Street has fallen into that rare and rather unsettling state known as... peace and quiet. My latest manservant has decamped to Manchester for the day. Apparently the northern outpost of government resides in a place called Heron House, grandly billed as the No. 10 of the North. Having conducted a thorough inspection from the comfort of several photographs, I can report that it possesses all the architectural charisma of a moderately successful insurance office. No delightfully wonky Number 10 on the door. No venerable boot scrapers. No sense whatsoever that history has happened there. It's all terribly sensible, which is another way of saying terribly dull. I can't imagine it will ever become as iconic as my own residence. Then again, perhaps that's just as well. I certainly wouldn't fancy spending my afternoons lounging outside the place pretending not to be waiting for photographers. I do have one further observation. The policemen standing guard appear perfectly pleasant chaps. I'm sure they're kind to their mothers and always remember birthdays. But they lack that unmistakable London Bobby air. A proper Downing Street officer has a certain polish—part guardian, part tourist attraction, part immovable piece of national furniture. These fellows simply haven't mastered the look. Still, every cloud has a silver lining. With His Nibs safely ensconced in Manchester, there should be considerably less traffic through No. 10 today. More importantly, I may finally have the uninterrupted opportunity to conduct a comprehensive inspection of his office. Purely in the interests of transparency, you understand. With any luck, I shall uncover a few tasty titbits worthy of sharing. Larry the Cat Rejected Banknote Candidate. Unlikely Megastar.
